A new political party launched yesterday promised to abolish taxes if elected.

Founders of the new Workers Party include several members of the General Practitioners Society.

The party’s president, Dr John Whiting, outlined the main points of its manifesto yesterday.

It included abolition of tax, withdrawal of welfare benefits, halting of compulsory education and the legalising of drugs.

The party will contest seats in the next Federal election.

Dr Whiting, an Adelaide general practitioner, said the party will be an effective alternative to the Labor and Liberal parties.

Mr Lang Hancock, the West Australian iron ore millionaire, is giving the party “full moral support” but said he was not a financial member, and was not giving financial aid.

Dr Whiting said it was only coincidence several members of the party were also members of the General Practitioners Society.

Dr Whiting said all taxation is “theft that lets parasites live off the earnings of productive workers.”
