The Workers Party today announced that their Senate team for the coming election will be led by Mr David Russell. Other members of the team and the first House of Representatives Candidates will be selected tomorrow.

David is a Director of the of the Workers Party. His previous political experience includes several years on the state executive of the Young Liberal Movement, and the Executive of the Ryan area of the Liberal Party. He was a personal assistant to the Director General of the Conservative Party prior to the 1974 general election in the UK.

Mr Russell is 25 years old and was born in Dalby, Queensland. He is the second son of Mr Charles Russell, a former Country Party member of both state and federal Houses of Parliament.

David was educated in Brisbane at the Church of England Grammar School and the University of Queensland, graduating in Arts and Law. While at University he was twice elected Vice President of the Students’ Union and member of the council of the Australian Union of Students.

He is a director of Barnes Milling Limited, a Dalby based flour milling company, and of several other agricultural companies. He has travelled widely in the Soviet Union and the Middle East. His spare time activities include flying, and a directorship of a Sydney based charitable foundation.
